Skillbuilders in Indio is an after school program that helps provide teenagers with the social skills that they will need for the rest of their lives. Our special needs clients have the opportunity to learn appropriate behaviors, and interact with their typical peers, in a safe, and understanding environment. Our staff provides our clients with the optimal tools and the necessary activities to ease their transition into daily adult life.
At Skillbuilders Indio each group of three children are mentored by a specifically trained recreation coach. Parents and coaches will work together to ensure that their children will develop to their highest potential in this unique atmosphere.
We are working toward the common goal of helping children to understand that as individuals, they have much in common. Children have the ability to learn and practice tolerance, patience, and acceptance with each other.
The children's sense of self will be enhanced by the development of the whole child as a social and emotional creative being.
During the year. there will be man celebrations of local events, holidays and festivals. Each child's individual achievements and progress will be celebrated as well.
Activities will include sporting events, community walks, computer lab, arts and crafts, library visits and outdoor sports, and summer trips to amusement parks.
Low cost programs are available to families based on financial need/ability to pay.
Skillbuilders I runs three days a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for children 8-22 years of age. Skillbuilders II runs 3 days a week Tuesday Thursday, and Friday also for children 8-22. A maximum of 40 hours a month is allotted for each child.
